Sea Of Sand (Desert Patrol)

An absolutely stunning ‘3 Sheet’ poster for the British post war classic ‘Sea Of Sand’.

This film focused on a small group of British WW2 commandos (likely intended to be the LRDG) who were sent to blow up a German petrol dump in preparation for a major allied attack during the North African campaign. However they inadvertently discover a large mass of German tanks laying in wait to ambush the impending attack and race across the desert with the Africa Korps in hot pursuit, who are set on keeping this information from the allies.

This film also stared a very young Richard Attenborough, who after leading a very successful acting career, would go on to become a leading director, responsible for box office hits such as “Jurassic Park’ and ‘Gandhi’.

I have only ever seen one other example of this ‘3 sheet’ for sale and unlike that one, this one has been expertly linen backed/conserved (at great cost), allowing for the join and fold lines to be carefully removed etc.

This poster would dominate any space it was displayed in and the masterful artwork is sure to be a major conversation piece for WW2 and art lovers alike.
